Maiven supports the EV Collective South Africa on a national policy roadmap

The EV Collective South Africa is a stakeholder coalition working to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in South Africa.The Collective brings together government, OEMs, fleet operators, industry bodies, infrastructure providers, and civil society to help align the policy, infrastructure, and market signals required to move EV adoption from pilot to scale.

Maiven supports the Collective across core research. Together, we are mapping the policy landscape - including the regulations, incentives, and standards shaping EV economics in South Africa. We are co-developing a Theory of Change that links stakeholder action to electrification outcomes, alongside a prioritised policy roadmap for scaling EV adoption, local manufacturing, and supporting infrastructure.

South Africa hosts one of the continent’s largest vehicle fleets and most established automotive manufacturing sectors. Decisions taken now on industrial policy, infrastructure investment, and fiscal incentives will shape not only South Africa’s transition pathway, but the future of electric mobility across the region.

Our shared ambition is to support a coordinated, practical, and economically competitive transition to electric mobility in South Africa; one that strengthens local industry, unlocks investment, and accelerates adoption through aligned stakeholder action.
